Emotional Support Focus
Using age appropriate vocabulary and concepts, we teach the child about dyslexia and how their brains work differently in terms of reading, writing and spelling. We discuss the amazing things that dyslexic brains do, but also discuss that having dyslexia is not always a “superpower” and we acknowledge the tough things that also come with dyslexia. We support the child through the good times and the rough times, and help them remember that they are amazing people, regardless of reading ability.
Years of Experience
Mrs. Spelman and her associates have many decades of experience working with children of different learning styles. All associates have degrees in special education and/or speech language pathology.
Parent Involvement Offered
Parents are pulled into the therapy session the last 5 minutes of the hour and are taught strategies and techniques to use at home with their child. Our expectation is that the parent spend 10 minutes per day working with their child to help the concepts go into long term memory.
